The Liepman Music Enhancement Project, a cherished initiative originally launched under the vision of Dr. Michael Liepman, is now proudly carried forward by his wife, Kathy Liepman. Dr. Liepman, a dedicated community advocate and one of the founders of Mothers of Hope (MOH), was passionate about expanding the organization’s programming to include a music enhancement component. This vision has continued to thrive and evolve under Kathy’s leadership.

In recognizing the community's strong focus on youth athletics, Kathy and the team at MOH chose to enrich students' lives through classical music. This initiative aims to broaden students' experiences in the arts, which is essential for their overall development and success. The program provides individualized music lessons and mentorship, allowing students to receive personal attention from experienced music teachers who also serve as supportive guides and advocates.

Participants not only receive piano instruction but also have the opportunity to attend community concerts, explore the works of classical composers, and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for classical music. Research indicates that involvement in after-school arts programs can significantly enhance academic performance, behavioral skills, and social interactions. By engaging in these activities, students build motivation, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment, which contributes to their overall success and helps prevent school dropout.

The Liepman Music Enhancement Project is dedicated to preparing students for future opportunities, including college and career readiness, in alignment with the KALAMAZOO PROMISE. This initiative builds essential skills and fosters a positive “I Can Do This” attitude among students.

Our focus is particularly on children from homes grappling with substance abuse challenges. As a grassroots organization, MOH has strong connections with families facing these difficulties. Through hands-on engagement and professional support, we work directly with both parents and children to ensure they are involved in meaningful activities and have access to the resources they need.

Under Kathy Liepman's guidance, the Liepman Music Enhancement Project continues to be a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of music in transforming lives.
